Part of a relatively undisturbed wetland (Helmick Run) owned by multiple private parties. Large strip mine lies to the west and may drain into this wetland.;Hemlock - birch swamp with spruce and sparse Rhododendron in understory. Forest floor is quite level and covered by wetland grasses and sedges. Trees are stressed with many dead branches. Standing snags are abundant, making up about 10% of total trunks. Average dbh=25cm, range of 2 middle quartiles=18-35cm dbh. Trees are on small, drier hummocks above graminoids. A few tip mounds present.

Hemlock - birch swamp with even, grassy floor and not much structure. Probably a younger swamp.
